In this example, you will learn how to use Safire to create a test case for test the performance of your firewall. Go to Dashboard and open Test Cases, then click CREATE NEW. You will be directed to Network Topology page.
Click OPEN to go to Test Cases
Select Network Topology
On the Network Topology page, choose the network topology that best matches the one where your firewall is deployed. There are four options:
- Enterprise Internal Segmentation
- Enterprise Security Perimeter
- Data Center Internal Segmentation (not supported in this version)
- Data Center Security Perimeter (not supported in this version)
Select a network topology
Click NEXT. You will be directed to the next page called Firewall Description.
Describe Firewall Configuration
On the Firewall Description page, you are asked to enter firewall’s interface addresses, model type, and the functions enabled.
Click the interface icons for the firewall interface addresses, and the
drop-down list for the firewall model
Click the “blue port” button on the firewall icon and enter the interface address of this firewall port in the pop-up dialog box and click SET. Depending on the network topology you have chosen previously, the interface name can be different. If the network topology is Enterprise Security Perimeter or Data Center Security Perimeter, the blue port is called LAN interface. Otherwise, the blue port is called Segment A. (If you don’t know the address, log on to your firewall and check its interface address.)
Now do the same for the “gray port” button on the firewall icon.
Enter firewall interface address
Then, select your firewall model from the Firewall Model drop-down list.
Choose firewall model
You can also attach some detailed information about the firewall by clicking ADD ADVANCED DESCRIPTION, and enter information such as firmware version, CPU count, and so on. The information will be shown in the test report.
Add firewall firmware version in advanced description
Select the interface speed of your firewall. Make sure the selected speed matches the firewall’s configuration. If you don’t know your firewall’s interface speed, log on to you firewall and check the interface speed.
Select firewall port speed
Describe the functions and transparent proxies enabled on the firewall by switching on the options as shown below. This information will be used by Safire to create a “smart analysis” (multiple tests combined into one graph).
Select security functions that are enabled on the firewall
After clicking NEXT, review whether the test case configuration is done correct, and then name the test configuration and click SAVE. Your test case configuration will be saved in the on-chassis database.
